Tune into Inner Knowing in the Sixth Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra, the sixth chakra named Ajna, is located at the center of the brow between the eyebrows. It is represented by the color indigo and the lotus flower.

When the third eye is balanced, it is characterized by vision, intuition, connection to wisdom, and creativity. This can be described as inner perception but may be difficult to express in words. When the mind moves beyond daily life distractions and is focused, vision guides individuals to higher levels of insight and creativity. However, for example, if one feels stuck in the daily grind without looking beyond problems or if it is difficult to establish a vision for oneself and realize it, there may be an imbalance. A blocked third eye chakra can limit abilities, beliefs, clarity, and decision making.

Keeping the third eye balanced occurs in yoga practice as energy moves through the spine and shoulders to recharge the central nervous system. As sun salutations and other yoga poses are performed, the body is energized and the mind is quieted, opening the doorway to inner knowing. Through meditation the mind continues to calm and insight expands.

In addition the third eye chakra is nourished with the consumption of purple food and omega 3-rich food as follows:

Purple grapes

Red cabbage

Purple kale

Purple sweet potatoes

Red onion

Salmon and sardines

Walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds

By adding these colorful food choices to the diet, creativity and clarity may strengthen. This sixth chakra is the path to awakening the inner self and connecting to innermost vision. Become friends with the self, the “seat of your soul.” Invite patience, compassion and kindness into life!
